Casting Announced for The Lyceum’s Crimes of the Heart

Casting is now complete for Crimes of the Heart, heartwarming winner of the 1981 Pulitzer Prize. The show is directed by KAT SINGLETON, who returns to the Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre, after having directed shows such as A Tuna Christmas, Red, White and Tuna, and Steel Magnolias here during previous seasons.

Director KAT SINGLETON has directed or performed in more than 100 shows, many of them at The Lyceum. She retired from Webster’s Conservatory of Theatre Arts in St. Louis in May 2018, where she is honored as professor emeritus. She now makes her home in the Sonoran Desert.

This production features KIRA HARRIS as Lenny Magrath, HEATHER SCHMIDT as Babe Botrelle, and DAKOTA MACKEY-McGEE as Meg Magrath. GRAYSON POWELL plays Doc Porter, KEVIN SEBASTIAN is Barnette Lloyd and CLAIRE GRESHAM plays Chick Boyle.

Crimes of the Heart is a zany, warmhearted and brilliantly imaginative Southern gothic tale of relationships run amok and dreams gone awry. In a hurricane of hilarity and hurt, Lenny, the eldest sister, is unmarried at thirty and facing diminishing marital prospects; Meg, the middle sister who quickly outgrew the town of Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast. Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband in the stomach. This story tests the boundaries of sisterhood in a world full of pitfalls and a town without pity. Rated PG-13.

KIRA HARRIS has played Emily in Our Town and Shelby in Steel Magnolias at Dana Theatre, Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at L.A. Shakespeare Co, and plays Donna on the Showtime series Billions. HEATHER SCHMIDT played Annelle in Steel Magnlias and Anne in The Diary of Anne Frank in past Lyceum seasons. Other credits include Astro Boy in Astro Boy and the God of Comics at Sacred Fools Theatre, Ophelia in Hamlet at Ensemble Shakespeare and Nina in Night Witches at LA Thrillpeddlers. DAKOTA MACKEY-McGEE has appeared on The Lyceum stage as Martha in 1776, Shelby in Steel Magnolias and Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof.

Making his Lyceum debut, GRAYSON POWELL has appeared in They Call Him Young Lou at Cherry Lane, Three Sisters at Riverside Theatre, Stand Up For Us All at Manhattan Rep, Othello at Commonwealth Shakes, The Glass Menagerie  at Barnstormer and Peter and the Starcatcher at New London Playhouse.  KEVIN SEBASTIAN is making his Lyceum Theatre debut as well. New York credits include The Adding Machine Off-Broadway, Waiting for the Bus, Samaratins, Importance of Being Earnest, and more. Regional appearances include Noises Off at Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead at Mirror Repertory and The Underpants at White Heron Theatre Company. CLAIRE GRESHAM is an actor, producer and voice artist who recently appeared in Men on Boats as Major Powell with The NOLA Project in New Orleans. Other regional credits include Love’s Labor Lost at Shakespeare Festival Tulane, Crimes of the Heart at Le Petit du Vieux Carre and To Kill a Mockingbird at Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre.
