Arrow Rock, MO – Casting is now complete for the Missouri Professional Premiere of the fast-paced, over-the-top farce A Comedy of Tenors, playing from September 1 – September 9. A Comedy of Tenors will be directed by HARRY BOUVY (The Lyceum’s 1776 and A Christmas Carol, 2016).

A Comedy of Tenors is Ken Ludwig’s hilarious sequel to his Tony Award and Drama Desk Award-winning farce Lend Me a Tenor which last appeared on the Lyceum’s stage in 2014. One hotel suite, four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends, and a soccer stadium filled with screaming fans. What could possibly go wrong? It’s 1930s Paris and the stage is set for the concert of the century—as long as producer Henry Saunders can keep Italian superstar Tito Merelli and his hot-blooded wife Maira from causing runaway chaos. Prepare for an uproarious ride, full of mistaken identities, bedroom hijinks, and madcap delight.

Making his Lyceum debut, JOHN TREACY EGAN plays the dual roles of Tito Morelli, one of Italy’s most famous opera singers, and Beppo, a hotel bellhop. Egan’s Broadway credits include My Fair Lady, Casa Valentina, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Sister Act, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, The Producers, Jekyll & Hyde, Bye Bye Birdie. Off-Broadway credits include Clinton, Disaster, When Pigs Fly!, and Batboy. TV/Film: Gotham, Younger, The Good Wife, The Knick, Boardwalk Empire, Nurse Jackie, 30 Rock, Cupid, Law & Order, Last Night, and The Producers. Also making her Lyceum debut, KATHY VOYTKO plays Maria, Tito’s fiery Italian wife. Broadway credits include Tuck Everlasting, A Gentleman’s Guide To Love And Murder, Oklahoma!, Nine, The Frogs, The Pirate Queen, and Next To Normal. She played Eva on the 25th anniversary tour of Evita, and Christine on the North American tour of The Phantom Of The Opera.

JAY RUSSELL returns to the Lyceum to play Saunders, the high-strung American producer. Broadway credits include End of the Rainbow, The Play What I Wrote. Birdie. SEAN BELL makes his Lyceum debut by playing Max, a rising American opera singer and former assistant to Saunders. Sean has performed in numerous theatrical productions in NYC and across the country, most recently at Bucks County Playhouse and The Kennedy Center. On television he has appeared in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire as well as Amazon’s Z and Red Oaks.

Returning to the Lyceum, HANNAH JANE MCMURRAY plays Racon, Tito’s ex-lover. Her recent credits include the National Tours of Dirty Dancing and Peter Pan 360. NY/Regional credits include Halcyon Days (Dir. Alex Dinelaris), Twelfth Night, Love’s Labour’s Lost (Boomerang), Death for Five Voices, The Hidden Sky (Prospect Theater), Love is Dead! (Locked in the Attic), My Way… (Smithtown PAC), The Miser (Piper Theater), and Les Miserables (Weston Playhouse). A recent graduate or Webster University in St. Louis her regional credits include Gloria in Will Mr. Merriwether Return From Memphis? (Tennessee Williams Festival), Marie Leroux in Is He Dead? (Saint Louis Shakespeare), and Adelaide in Guys and Dolls (Austin Summerstock).  Also making his Lyceum debut, CONNOR ANTICO plays Carlo, a young opera impresario who is in love with Mimi. Arrow Rock, MO – Casting is now complete for the Lyceum premiere of the charming and hilarious comedy Souvenir, playing from August 18 – August 26. Souvenir will be directed by BRUCE LONGWORTH (At the Lyceum: The Immigrant, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Miracle Worker, Arsenic and Old Lace and The Importance of Being Earnest). The production features APRIL WOODALL as Florence Foster Jenkins, and PAUL HELM as her hapless accompanist, Cosmé McMoon.

Souvenir tells the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a wealthy socialite who became famous for trying to be an opera star, but Jenkins was blissfully unaware that she was completely tone deaf. Her accompanist, Cosmé McMoon, the narrator of the play, needs money, and thus he is willing to play for a woman who cannot sing to save her life. Both touching and hilarious, Souvenir takes the audience into Florence’s world, finding there the beauty she’d heard in her head all along.

APRIL WOODALL returns to the Lyceum to play Florence Foster Jenkins. At the Lyceum, April has been seen in Mary Poppins, Into the Woods, Big, Little Women, Tom Sawyer, The Sound of Music, Arsenic and Old Lace, Damn Yankees, and A Christmas Carol for the past two seasons.  Other regional credits include: Maine State Music Theatre, Fulton Theatre, American Theatre Group, Mill Mountain Theater, Little Theatre on the Square, Gateway Playhouse, and Bristol Riverside Theatre. April first performed Florence Foster Jenkins in “Souvenir” at the Cortland Repertory Theatre in 2011, then at the Center City Theatre Works in 2012, and again at Montgomery Theatre in 2014. She has appeared as a commentator in the 2016 documentary of Florence’s life, “The Florence Foster Jenkins’ Story”, and has received two Best Actress nominations for her performances of Florence: one from the SALT Awards, and another from the Barrymore Awards.

Making his Lyceum debut, PAUL HELM plays Cosmé McMoon. Paul has performed, directed and music directed with the Utah Shakespeare Festival, Florida Studio Theatre, Auburn Public Theater, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Fireside Dinner Theatre, First Stage Children’s Theater, Skylight Music Theatre, American Folklore Theatre, Gallery Players, Florentine Opera Company, Greenbrier Valley Theatre, Circa ‘21 Dinner Playhouse, Young Actors Guild, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, BucknellUniversity, Marquette University, and the UW-Platteville Heartland Festival. Paul was also a vocalist for Disney on Classic, a three-month symphony concert tour of Japan with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Arrow Rock, MO – Casting is now complete for the Lyceum premiere of the fast-paced musical, Footloose, based on the movie and filled with all the songs that made that soundtrack an enduring classic. Playing from July 18–July 29, Footloose is directed and choreographed by SAM HAY (Crazy For You, 2018 – Beauty and the Beast, Oklahoma, Mamma Mia, 2017), and musically directed by Resident Musical Director, JAMES WOODLAND.

Footloose is the story of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago. When Ren and his mother move to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the adjustment to his new high school. What he isn’t prepared for are the local laws – including a ban on dancing – which are the brainchild of a local preacher bent on exercising control over the town’s youths. When the Reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her heart on Ren, her boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation and many of the locals are eager to believe the worst about the new kid. From the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

Crazy For You is directed by PETER REYNOLDS (Oklahoma, 2017), choreographed by SAM HAY (Beauty and the Beast, Oklahoma, Mamma Mia, 2017), and musically directed by Resident Musical Director, JAMES WOODLAND.

Crazy For You tells the story of Bobby Child, a stage-struck NYC banker, who heads to desolate Deadrock, Nevada to foreclose a rundown theater. It’s love at first sight when he runs into spunky Polly Baker, the theater owner’s daughter, who doesn’t realize he’s the heartless businessman she’s vowed to get even with. Perhaps the great theatre impresario and Bobby’s idol, Bela Zangler of the Zangler Follies, might be able to help. With a book by Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor, A Comedy of Tenors), this Gershwin extravaganza is filled with song, dance, and hilarious dialogue. Audiences will be swept up in this charming and hilarious tale of boy meeting girl in the Wild West, where they spread goodness and ultimately fall in love.

Making his Lyceum debut, DREW HUMPHREY plays Bobby Child, a banker. Humphrey’s appeared on Broadway in Irving Berlin’s White Christmas and has appeared in Of Thee I Sing (Encores!), Lady Be Good (Encores!), 42nd Street (1 st National Tour). His regional credits include Crazy for You (Bobby Child, Tuacahn), A Chorus Line (Don, Sacramento Music Circus), Cats (Skimbleshanks, The Muny), On The Town (Chip, FLMTF), Hello Dolly! (Ensemble, Goodspeed Opera House), and Mary Poppins (Bert, VCT). ANDREA DOTTO, returns to Arrow Rock to play Polly, the only woman in Deadrock. Last seen at the Lyceum as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Dotto recently made her Broadway debut in Bandstand, gaining herself a Chita Rivera Award Nomination for Best Female Dancer in a Broadway Show. She’s performed at Lincoln Center, Papermill Playhouse, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and toured with the National Tour of Joseph! Arrow Rock, MO – Casting is now complete for the Lyceum premiere of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s high-flying spectacular Mary Poppins. The musical, playing from June 6–June 17, will be directed by Len Pfluger (Beauty and the Beast, 2017), choreographed by Josh Assor, and musically directed by James Woodland.

Lyceum favorite, MALLORY HAWKS, returns to Arrow Rock to play Mary Poppins. Mallory has played Mary in the original cast of Disney Cruise Line’s Disney’s Believe. Her Lyceum appearances include Jo in Little Women, Esther in Meet Me in St. Louis and Essie in You Can’t Take It With You, among others. Off-Broadway and New York credits include Seussical (Lortel), String (New Dramatists, Playwrights Horizons) and Sam’s Room (NAMT, NYTheatre Barn/The Cell). She can be seen in several commercials, most recently Bud Light’s “Dilly Dilly” Pit of Misery spot. Playing Bert, BRIAN OGILVIE will revisit the show that gave him his Broadway debut. Arrow Rock, MO – Though many audience members may be unaware of its existence, a critical component of The Lyceum’s productions is the stage rigging system.  It has two basic functions: to support the stage-lighting system and the stage scenery.

Also know as a fly system, it is a system of rope lines, pulleys, counterweights and related devices within the theatre that enables a stage crew to hoist quickly, quietly and safely components such as curtains, lights, scenery, special effects and sometimes people.  “Our audience sees the magic happen on stage, but they don’t necessarily know how it works.  Stage rigging is a key element to every production,” says Steve Bertani, Managing Director.

The safety and effectiveness of our equipment used onstage is something the theatre takes seriously.  “We may have nearly 100 lighting instruments weighing up to 35 pounds each, clamped to pipe batons in our rigging system.  In addition, stage curtains, painted backdrops and heavier framed scenic pieces are examples of the kinds of scenery raised and lowered by the rigging system.  There are both stationary and moving components that hang above the actors during a performance,” explains Quin Gresham, Producing Artistic Director.

Recently, The Lyceum called in Associated Theatrical Contractors from Springfield, MO to do its annual rigging inspection required by OSHA.  In their report, several items were recommended to be repaired or replaced, a project that is costing the theatre $10,000 to complete over a two year period.  Priority items are to be completed before the opening of the 2018 Season.

“It is our responsibility to maintain our system and make the necessary upgrades to ensure the safety of our employees,” Bertani says.

These types of projects can put a strain on the theatre’s annual operating budget so outside support is vital from companies like Commerce Trust Company and TIG Advisors to help achieve these projects.  Both companies supported a back-up generator project several years ago that now runs the entire theatre during power outages.

Bertani immediately contacted both companies to discuss the stage rigging improvement project.

“Commerce is a big supporter of the Lyceum Theatre and their mission to bring theatre to our region. We believe the arts are a key component to building a strong community, and we are proud to partner with The Lyceum in this effort,” says Steve Sowers, President, Commerce Bank Central and Eastern Missouri Region.

Representatives from both companies toured the theatre’s stage and backstage areas, allowing them to see first hand the rigging system and the improvements that needed to be made.

Arrow Rock, MO – Based on the celebrated books by Arnold Lobel, the hit Broadway musical A Year with Frog and Toad, with book and lyrics by Willie Reale and music by Robert Reale, will have one public performance at 11AM on April 14, 2018. Follow the woodland adventures of two amphibious friends and their assorted hopping, crawling and flying companions over the course of a year. Lobel’s award-winning stories come to life complete with toe-tapping music as Frog, Toad and their friends plant a garden, fly kites, swim in the pond and skip rope for 60 action-packed minutes. This song-filled year in the life of these two charming woodland characters has the rare ability to captivate children and adults alike.

The cast for A Year with Frog and Toad features Lyceum favorites Ben Nordstrom as Frog and Steve Isom as Toad. Since 1998 Nordstrom has appeared in many Lyceum productions, most recently as Scrooge’s nephew Fred in A Christmas Carol and Sam Phillips in Million Dollar Quartet. A resident of St. Louis, his work there includes Macbeth, Next Fall, [title of show], and Urinetown at Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and Mamma Mia, The Buddy Holly Story, and Billy Elliot at The Muny. The Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre is a non-profit 501(c)(3), professional theatre located in the unique Village of Arrow Rock, Missouri, a 19th century National Historic Landmark. The Village of Arrow Rock received the 2017 Missouri Arts Council Creative Community Award. The Lyceum has been entertaining audiences in the heart of Missouri for 57 years producing a variety of musicals, dramas and comedies. Each year, this 416 seat theatre attracts professional talent from across the country to produce an eight show season (June-December). Performers, designers, directors, and technicians take residence in Arrow Rock for five months to bring its patrons Broadway caliber productions throughout the summer.

The Lyceum Theatre is affiliated with Actors’ Equity Association, the Union for Professional Actors and Stage Managers in the United States, and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. The Lyceum receives much needed support from the Missouri Arts Council.
